Re: "Interpretation and choice of effect measures in epidemiologic analyses".

چکیده
The concept of the odds ratio is now wellestablished in epidemiology, largely because it serves as a link between results obtainable from follow-up studies and those obtainable from case-control studies (1-7). Odds ratios also naturally arise when considering small sample analysis of 2 X 2 tables and in logistic and log-linear modeling (2-4, 8). This ubiquity, along with certain technical considerations, has led some authors to treat the odds ratio as perhaps a "universal" measure of epidemiologic effect, in that they would estimate odds ratios in follow-up studies as well as case-control studies (6, 9); others have expressed reservations about the utility of the odds ratio as something other than an estimate of an incidence ratio (10, 11).

In epidemiologic studies, the measurement of characteristics of interest is almost always subject to random measurement error. This error and its effects are usually overlooked by researchers. One of its effects is a widespread statistical phenomenon that is well known as regression to the mean. This phenomenon occurs whenever an extreme group of people is selected from a population based on th...

This study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of migraine and tension-type headaches among Shiraz primary schools teachers and to provide an epidemiologic model for them. A random sample of 538 teachers, constituting a 10% sample of the primary schools teachers’ population, was evaluated on the basis of the diagnostic criteria of the International Headache Society (IHS) as well as clinica...

Rereading the Interpretation of "There is no compulsion in religion"in the Light of the Theory of Coherence and Continuity of the Qur'an and Its Relation to Freedom of Religion and Belief
The Quranic sentence "There is no compulsion in religion" has been interpreted differently by commentators in different periods. Some has taken it as the permission for freedom of belief from the verse and some has considered it in conflict with the verses of fighting and apostasy. The distinction and diversity of the commentators' understanding of the verses of the Qur'an is related to the men...
متن کاملIntermediate and advanced topics in multilevel logistic regression analysis
Multilevel data occur frequently in health services, population and public health, and epidemiologic research. In such research, binary outcomes are common. Multilevel logistic regression models allow one to account for the clustering of subjects within clusters of higher-level units when estimating the effect of subject and cluster characteristics on subject outcomes. A search of the PubMed da...
